Helping your child with learning

These are unprecedented times for us all; none of us have lived through these times or even imagined that we would be living through them now, so please bear with us to ensure we get home learning right for you and your children.

First of all, set the tone for home learning- prepare a schedule of working time and down time whilst at home. Go to class Dojo to find out more about the learning that is taking place for the week or for the day. Don't try to do too much!

Secondly, consider what is important to you and your child. For younger children 'phonics' is a key area to help them to learn to read. For older pupils independent reading and the skills of writing is key to help the children move into their secondary education and beyond. Number knowledge is also crucial as it lays the solid foundation for mathematical learning; this needs to include times tables and number bonds, x facts and / facts too.

Reading is also key- reading everyday exposes children to a variety of vocabulary and the world of print. Reading longer books and novels as we grow older enables to escape from the here and now. Also read with your child or read to your child. This will be short lived, you wont be reading to them when they are older so make the most of it now.

Finally, have some fun: Creative work is important as it helps your child to express themselves and their emotions safety. Think about what you can do within the home and in the garden using everyday recycling packages etc. Find out things together, make a model of a castle. Find out about the NHS, how does it exist? Why does it exist? Who was Florence Nightingale?

There are many online things you can access during the lock down and the BBC is releasing a new online learning service to help with the education of our children during this time- this will start next week.
I have also added some links that maybe of help to you whilst your children are at home learning.

Please don't think you are alone, we are with you every step of the way. Contact us via Class Dojo and we will be here to help you. We are constantly working, either to support your children at home by setting home learning or by child minding those who are coming into school .

Thank you,
